Important: Read Before Submitting a Request
Snugg uses end-to-end encryption for all user content. This means we cannot access the contents of posts, messages, photos, or any user-generated content. Before submitting a request, please review our technical limitations section to understand what data we can and cannot provide.
Valid Legal Process
We will only respond to legally valid process from authorised law enforcement agencies. The following types of legal process are accepted:
Subpoena
A valid subpoena issued in connection with an official criminal investigation may compel the disclosure of basic subscriber records.
Court Order
A court order issued under applicable law may compel the disclosure of subscriber records and metadata (but not encrypted content).
Search Warrant
A search warrant issued by a court upon a showing of probable cause may compel the disclosure of all records we possess (noting that encrypted content remains inaccessible).
Technical Limitations
Due to our end-to-end encryption architecture, there are fundamental limits to what data we can provide, regardless of the legal process used.
Data We Can Provide
- Basic subscriber information (email address, account creation date)
- Login/logout timestamps and IP addresses used
- Group membership metadata (which groups a user belongs to, not group content)
- Encrypted content (ciphertext that is meaningless without user keys)
Data We Cannot Provide
- Decrypted post content, messages, or comments (we do not have the keys)
- Photos, videos, or media in readable form (encrypted at rest and in transit)
- Private group names or descriptions (encrypted)
- Any content in plaintext form (encryption keys are held only by users)
This is not a policy choice—it is a technical limitation of our architecture. We cannot decrypt user content even if we wanted to or were legally compelled to do so.
